Several Banyan teammates and their families have been volunteering at the Marine Mammal Conservancy in Key Largo to assist with the rehabilitation efforts of beached pilot whales. On May 5, over 20 pilot whales were stranded off the shores of Cudjoe Key. Although the majority of the whales died, two whales were tagged, released, and tracked by NOAA via satellite; and the five remaining sick whales were transported to Key Largo shortly after the
stranding. Since May 5, volunteers from around the country have been working around the clock to assist in the healing process of each whale. Sadly, however, three whales had to be euthanized. The remaining 2 female whales continue to be treated around the clock.
