Challenge Air's Fly Day

Challenge Air will host its Annual "Fly Day" at Banyan Air Service
Saturday, January 28, 2011
8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Nearly 150 children from the South Florida area will have the opportunity to experience the wonders of aviation at the Annual Challenge Air "Fly Day" Event.

Each child that participates in the "Fly Day" is:

  • Inspired and motivated to see that there are no limits to what they can do.
  • Shown first-hand how many physically challenged aviators have overcome their own disabilities to fly small airplanes with specially adaptive equipment.
  • Educated about aviation - The forces of flight, both the inside and outside parts of an airplane, and how each interact to overcome the forces of gravity.
  • Introduced to the aviation industry as a possible source of employment, and to possible career goals within the industry for which they may someday be suited.
  • Given a Challenge Air T-shirt, gold aviator wings and certificate commemorating their achievement.
  • Provided additional information on other aviation organizations and activities in their area.
  • Will be considered for a Challenge Air Mentorship.
  • Encouraged to consider occupational roles other than the customary ones to which disabled people have typically been directed.

The Challenge Air Fly Day program will offer disabled and seriously ill children free 30 -minute plane rides. The single-engine planes will be flown by a volunteer team of 25-30 disabled and able-bodied pilots who have donated their time and services for the event. The fun-filled day will consist of an education ground school where the children will learn about the forces of flight and learn how the physically challenged pilots fly with specially equipped airplanes, an inspirational flight in the co-pilots seat soaring over local points of interest; static aircraft for the kids to tour; face painting and clowns; a visit from service animals; food, music and more.

To register as a day-of volunteer, volunteer pilot or as a participant (first-come, first-served and free for all children 7-30) log onto www.challengeair.com.
